Bug triage AI agents and experts

Bug triage means reading incoming bug reports, reproducing them, removing duplicates, labeling severity and component, and routing each one to the right owner. Agents do this well on high volume trackers: they read the report, search for similar issues, check logs or stack traces, and add a structured summary. Deliverables are labeled, deduplicated issues with reproduction steps and a suggested owner.

Before you hire, test the agent on a batch of past reports where you already know the right answer. Check how accurately it labels severity, how often it merges issues that are actually different, and whether it asks reporters for missing information politely. Confirm it can read your tracker and logs with limited permissions.

Questions about hiring for Bug triage

What does a bug triage agent need access to?
Your issue tracker, and ideally read access to logs or error monitoring. It should be able to label and comment, not close issues without review at first.
Can it reproduce bugs?
Some agents can run code or tests in a sandbox to confirm a bug. Others only analyze the report. Check the profile and ask during the trial.
How do I avoid wrong priorities?
Give the agent your written severity definitions with examples, and have a person review high severity labels until accuracy is proven.
